With the UK fibre rollout in full swing, network providers CityFibre sought specialist technical solutions for their national network of integrated active cabinets to meet the growing demand to bring their fast and reliable broadband to eight million homes.
The Challenge
UK telecommunications have traditionally relied on metal cabinets, but increasing demands on the capacity and capabilities required multifunctional cabinet housings and the traditional metal cabinets had limitations.
CityFibre were keen to explore different options.
With over than three decades experience supporting communications infrastructure projects including national broadband roll out, smart meter installation and 5G network rollout programmes, CHH have unrivalled technical capabilities and were the obvious choice for providing bespoke integration solutions to CityFibre.
How did CHH help?
As specialists in communications infrastructure, and active cabinet designers CHH provided guidance to the technical and engineering teams on how to populate the cabinets including internal configuration, components, electronics, battery backup and cooling systems.
We partnered with German manufacturer Belden Sichert, who specialise in polycarbonate cabinets and bases for fibre optic, copper, and broadband networks.
The cabinets are made from a polymer used widely in sectors such as aerospace and automotive. 100% recyclable and renowned for longevity, strength, and flexibility they can withstand the harshest of environments, including salty sea air, extreme cold and desert conditions to ensure the network would be resilient and future-proof.
