CHH Director Steve Turner and brother Paul have raised money for a cause close to their hearts after organising a golf day in aid of charity Lymphoma Action.
They decided on the charity because Paul’s daughter Lauren (pictured) was diagnosed with the disease last year.
He said: “Lauren said a few words at the dinner after the golf day – it was pretty emotional for everyone.
“After she was diagnosed with Hodgkin Lymphoma in August 2018, she had to have several months of chemotherapy and three weeks of radiotherapy treatment.
“It was a challenging time for the whole family – but thankfully she’s in remission now. We’re so grateful to everyone who has supported the event this year.
“Raising funds for Lymphoma Action means other families affected by lymphoma will get the support they need too.”
The brothers, with the help of friend Dave Salt, have held the fundraiser at the golf club, at which they are members, for nine years. Initially it was to raise money for their sons’ football team Intermacc but it has since branched out to other causes.
This year around 120 guests raised £20,000 for Lymphoma Action, the only charity in the UK dedicated to the condition.
Much of the money was raised through the raffle and auction, where prizes included weekend packages at the Trump Doonbeg golf resort in Ireland, a signed Rory McIlroy shirt and corporate tickets to Liverpool and Manchester United.
Karen Bonell, who attended the event on behalf of the charity, said: “We don’t receive any government funding and so rely on the generosity of individuals like Paul and Steve.
“With a new case being diagnosed in the UK every 27 seconds – and 125,000 people currently living with the condition – that support is crucial.
“One of the ways we offer this in the local area is through our Macclesfield Support Group, which takes place every other month in Macclesfield District General Hospital.
“It’s warm and friendly and a great place to meet others with similar experiences. We welcome anyone affected by lymphoma and any other blood cancer.”
The brothers have thanked all who supported the event and special thanks has been given to Paul’s workplace, Belden, for sponsorship.
