Looking back at 2019 and ahead to 2020

We couldn’t let this year draw to a close without taking a few minutes to reflect on it because it’s been a really significant year for us.

Over the last 12 months, we’ve had so many ‘new’ achievements – new customers, new contract wins which have led to us working with new sectors and new types of projects requiring new capabilities.  And, to top it all, we will increase our turnover by 50%. Let’s take a look at some of our key 2019 achievements in a bit more detail:

Strong financial performance

Just last month, we announced we’re on track to reach an £11million turnover mark this year. All forms of financial growth are to be welcomed, but this milestone is particularly special to us, as it we’ve increased our turnover with a minimal addition to overhead costs.

Our strong financial performance has been fuelled by a number of factors, which include working on the Government-backed smart meter infrastructure programme (more on this below), providing the rail sector with our plug and play solutions and the life science market with panel builds and cable assemblies.

Smart meter rollout

More recently, the Managed Services arm of our business has played a pivotal role in the Government’s on-going smart meter rollout scheme. So far, we’ve provided 850 custom-manufactured and integrated rack systems for the North of England and Scotland infrastructure phase of the project.

The meter deployment element of the project means field engineers can order all of their vital tools, consumables and protective equipment online for next day delivery. In the turn, they can spend more time in the field and carry out smart meter installation more much efficiently.

Sichert partnership

Meanwhile, we have seen a significant increase in the levels of awareness and interest in our preferred partner status with German company, Berthold Sichert, who are the market leader in the development and manufacture of polycarbonate cabinets and bases.

We’re keen to carve a name for ourselves as being at the forefront of our industry, particularly as we develop our presence within the rail sector at a time when it needs to embrace new materials, new technologies and a more collaborative mindset.

Redi-Rack launch

Earlier this year (June), we launched our Redi-Rack product range, which offers everything from off-the-shelf rack assembly through to fully integrated cabinets that are tailored to our customers’ requirements.

Having such an extensive range of managed service and installation services to hand means data centre designers can deliver unique solutions, according to individual budgets and requirements and optimise inventory costs and infrastructure development timelines.

Rail sector relations

As we mentioned above, our financial performance has really soared this year, and one area where there’s been a notable uprise, is our work with the rail sector.

We were particularly pleased to exhibit at this year’s Railtex event at a time when our rail industry sales continued to rise. We’ve experienced a steady upturn in demand for our plug and play solutions, cabinet integrations and cable and loom assemblies, which are designed to help the industry deliver the Rail Sector Deal and upgrade the UK’s ageing rail infrastructure.

We’re hopeful a lot of the successes we achieved this year will continue well into 2020 and beyond as we continue to develop from strength-to-strength across all areas of the business and across multiple sectors.

We firmly have our sights set on continuing along the path we’ve carved for ourselves this year, which is guaranteed to branch out into more exciting areas, such as smart cities. There was so much to celebrate in 2019 and even more to anticipate in 2020 – watch this space, the best is definitely yet to come.
