CHH’s success is all down to the people who drive our business. They go above and beyond to ensure our smart connectivity solutions are the best in class and meet the changing needs of our customers.
We like to celebrate the colleagues who make this business tick and highlight the great work they do in driving continual improvement. In the next instalment of our Day in the Life series, we are talking to CHH’s Finance Director, Chris Wilde. Chris is a busy man controlling the finances of such a fast growing business – we like to keep him on his toes.
How long have you been with CHH?
I have worked for CHH since 2001and I can’t believe how much time has gone by. I was previously auditing the business as part of my role at Felton & Co and got to know it pretty well. CHH’s previous owner Tim Hughes asked me to come on board. I could see it had huge growth potential and was keen for a challenge.
How has your role changed over time?
It started out as quite a transactional role dealing with the day to day finances. When Paul and Cory took over CHH three years ago, they talked about their plans and encouraged me to take on more responsibility and have a more strategic focus. I’m now very hands on and I’m getting involved in a greater variety of work. That has included liaising with the bank about refinancing and sorting out our insurance.
Describe a typical working day.
That’s very hard to do as no two are ever the same. People think of finance as repetitive and very structured work. There is an element of that but in this business, you never know what is around the corner.
The leadership team is very ambitious and there is always something new to get to grips with. In a typical day I tend to get into the office for 6 am. I could be checking payments to suppliers, looking at cashflow, preparing information for the bank and updating colleagues in a meeting. I still like to write a to-do list first thing in the morning but it’s rare that things pan out the way I’d planned!
What do you enjoy most about your job?
It comes back to not knowing what the day ahead has in store. I like my routines. When Paul and Cory took over there was a lot of change. At first it really took me outside my comfort zone, but it means your job is never boring. I’m enjoying the challenge and the chance to stimulate the brain cells.
It’s an exciting environment to work in. I’m lucky to be surrounded by some great people and a leadership team that have helped me fulfil my potential.
What are you most looking forward to for the rest of 2025?
I’m exciting about seeing CHH continue to grow. There is so much going on and so many more opportunities. It’s amazing what has been achieved over the last few years but there is so much more to come. I’m waiting to see what the next stage in our journey will be and how we will continue to use our agility to respond to changing markets and demands. I’m certainly not ready to retire – I’m enjoying it too much!
How would your colleagues describe you?
Jodie Morris, Accounts Assistant
Well, he’s known as a bit of a moaner! I’ll let him off though because he’s a lovely man who’s very witty and on the ball. Chris is the best manger I have ever had. He’s considerate, flexible and gives you the freedom to get on with your job. We have a really good relationship.
