As CHH’s final mile operation has grown, so too has the team behind it. What started as an evolution of our end-to-end offer has quickly developed into a key part of the business, supporting a growing network of pick up and drop off locations and helping CHH build its presence in a changing market. Behind that progress are the people keeping everything moving day in, day out.
In this edition of our Day in the Life series, we catch up with Ripon Miah, Lead Driver, to hear more about his journey into the business, what a typical day looks like on the ground, and how his role has evolved as the final mile side of CHH has expanded. From early starts and problem solving to being part of a close knit team, Ripon gives an honest insight into life at the heart of the operation.
What did you do before you joined CHH and what attracted you to the business?
Before joining CHH in August 2024, I worked for Whistl, which is part of the Royal Mail Group. I started there as a driver and then went on to manage a team of 15 drivers. When that contract came to an end, I started looking for my next opportunity.
I came across the CHH role and did some research into the business and the direction the owners were taking it in. I was really impressed by what Cory had to say in my interview and by the ambition behind the business. It felt like a company that was building something exciting and I wanted to be part of that journey.
Describe a typical working day at CHH?
My day usually starts at 7am and the mornings are definitely the busiest part of the day. I book the drivers in, make sure everyone has their manifest and deal with any issues that come up before the day gets going. That could mean finding cover if someone is off sick, changing the tyre on a van, or replanning routes at short notice.
A big part of my role is making decisions quickly and solving problems there and then. I monitor messages from the driver WhatsApp group, respond to issues as they come in and keep everything moving. If needed, I will jump in a van and go out on the road myself to make sure deliveries are completed.
No two days are ever quite the same, which is one of the things I enjoy. You have to stay focused, think on your feet and keep the operation running smoothly.
How has your role evolved during the time you have been here?
When I first joined CHH, I spent my first four to six weeks working both in the warehouse and as a driver. That gave me a really good understanding of the wider operation and how all the different parts fit together.
At the start, I was the only driver. Now I am Lead Driver and we have grown significantly. I also had the chance to help shape and improve processes as the operation expanded, which has been really rewarding. There have certainly been challenges along the way, but I knew from the start that it would not always be easy. You just have to trust the process, keep improving and work as a team.
It has been great to see how much our final mile operation has grown in such a short space of time. When I started, we were delivering to around 30 to 40 PUDOs. Now we are working across over 400. Seeing that progress first hand and knowing I have played a part in it has been a big highlight for me.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Honestly, I enjoy every aspect of it. The culture at CHH is great. We can have a laugh together, but when it is time to get things done everyone is focused and pulls together. We have a very diverse team with people from lots of different backgrounds and nationalities, and it genuinely feels like a family.
I also really value the support I have had since day one. Paul and Cory regularly check in to see how things are going, Matt has been a great support, and everyone is approachable. In many businesses you never get to meet the owners, but here everyone is accessible and that makes a real difference.
What I also enjoy is knowing there is real opportunity here. If you work hard, it gets noticed. CHH is a place where you can grow your career and be part of something that is getting bigger all the time. That is what excites me most.
