Founded in 2006, Connexin is a UK-based digital service and smart technology provider.  The Hull-based business is committed to connecting people, places and things to smart technologies as a way of changing lives and communities for the better. It operates across three areas of broadband, smart solutions and digital training and is passionate about ending digital inequalities which prevent people and businesses from accessing the benefits of technological advancement. The business has enjoyed significant growth over recent years thanks to building relationships with a network of trusted suppliers.

CHH provides a one stop shop for customers looking to capitalise on smart connectivity solutions. We have a proud track record supporting alternative networks (AltNets) to accelerate the roll out of fast and reliant broadband. In 2022 we started providing Connexin with Active Outdoor Cabinets, allowing it to extend its services to homes and businesses across the UK. Our experienced Design, Engineering and Manufacturing division takes care of the whole process from helping decide what kit is required to designing an optimized internal cabinet.

Advanced connectivity

That relationship has continued to evolve as Connexin expands its offer. The company has developed a compelling proposition and was named in the ‘Northern Tech Awards Top 100 Fastest Growing Companies’ three years in a row.

As part of that evolution Connexin has begun supporting smart city projects through a department committed to integrating the Internet of Things (IoT). This involves empowering public and private organisations to deploy end-to-end smart IoT solutions which connect any device over any network and platform. These solutions are designed to create communities that are safer, more efficient, and cost-effective, and in turn improve the quality of life for all citizens.

The department focuses on helping customers collect and access the data they need to make informed decisions. A large part of that work involves supplying utilities providers with smart metering over IoT networks which enables greater monitoring, improved efficiencies, and reduced costs.

Having greater visibility is critical for water utilities, a sector which faces significant challenges in areas including leakage, pollution and tracking consumption. Connexin’s AMI (Advanced Metering Infrastructure) allows devices across the network to communicate with one another in real-time and provide live insights across the network. That proactive monitoring of water usage helps manage cost and prevent wastage.

CHH is supporting this work by providing kits to support the installation of smart water meter leakage monitoring devices They include a power supply, antennae and a pack of parts and brackets used for mounting the meters onto lamp posts.

Shared values

Both CHH and Connexin have similar values and share a commitment to prosper by balancing the needs of people, profit and planet. Connexin has commitment to become Net Zero by 2040 and in April 2024 the business earned B Corp™ Certification. This involved a rigorous impact evaluation and certification demonstrates that the company meets high standards of social and environmental performance, accountability, and transparency.

CHH shares this passion for being an ethical and responsible business and has developed a robust sustainability strategy. By supporting Connexin with the roll out of smart water meters, CHH is helping utility customers including Essex and Suffolk Water, Yorkshire Water, and Severn Trent Water to rapidly detect water leaks across the UK. This supports efforts to minimise wastage and reduce carbon emissions from manual meter readings.

Future focus

Both businesses are keen to maintain momentum in using their smart connectivity solutions to secure a more sustainable future. CHH will continue supporting Connexin by providing cabinets to support the broadband roll out as well as the kits for all products related to the Internet of Things. There is also potential to extend that offer to providing products through our Managed Services division to ensure Connexin engineers have everything they need for a successful installation.

Liz Scott, Managing Director of CHH’s Design, Engineering and Manufacturing Division, said: “At CHH we are committed to forming long term relationships with our customers and evolving our offer to meet their changing needs. It has been fantastic to support Connexin on its growth journey and we look forward to working together to use smart connectivity solutions to improve people’s lives.”

Connexin’s CEO Furqan Alamgir commented: “Our partnership with CHH has been instrumental in supporting the expansion of our broadband and smart water meter initiatives. Their expertise and commitment to quality have enabled us to enhance our service offerings and drive forward our mission to connect communities through smart technology.”
